Waters unveils the Cyclic IMS P20 mass spectrometer at ASMS 2026
Waters announced the Cyclic IMS P20 MS on 1 June 2026, with global availability expected from September 2026.
On 1 June 2026, at the 74th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics, Waters Corporation announced the launch of the Cyclic IMS P20 Mass Spectrometer [1][2]. Waters describes it as a high-resolution structural and spatial omics platform. All performance figures below come from Waters' own testing as stated in the release.
What the instrument combines
Multipass Cyclic Ion Mobility Spectrometry with upgraded fragmentation, probing and imaging capabilities [1].
Integrated MALDI XS and DESI XS imaging sources, for visualising molecules in tissue [1][2].
Structural probing options listed as IMSn, ECD, SID and CIU [2].
Claimed performance
More than a tenfold gain in MS/MS sensitivity compared with the predecessor. The release's reference note words this as "up to 10x" [1][2].
An upper mass range extended by more than 50%, to over 100 kDa [2].
A professor from University College London quoted in the release said the sensitivity gain could speed up his analyses, potentially by an order of magnitude. This is a customer's expectation, not independent validation [2].
Naming and availability
In Waters' new naming convention, "P" stands for Premium, its highest performance tier, and "20" reflects the platform's evolution from the SELECT SERIES lineage [2]. The instrument was shown at ASMS 2026 and is expected to be available globally from September 2026 [2].
Target uses
Waters points to early disease detection, next-generation biotherapeutic development and structural analysis [1]. The sources do not state pricing or India-specific details. Please contact the Agarwal Brothers team if you would like us to ask the principal about your application.
